The US initiated an investigation into the product range with wooden cabinets imported from Vietnam (06/03/2022)
The Department of Trade Remedies (PVTM) received information that on May 24, 2022 (US time), the US Department of Commerce (DOC) initiated an investigation into wooden cabinets imported from Vietnam and Malaysia. entering the United States using parts imported from China are within the scope of the trade remedy measure that the United States is applying to similar Chinese products.

Specifically, in the China Tariff Order, the DOC stipulates that wooden cabinets and parts covered by the measure are further processed in a third country, including but not limited to the following stages: Planning, cutting, grooving, punching, drilling, painting, coloring, finishing or other operations, are still within the scope of application of anti-dumping tax/CTC.

According to US regulations, relevant parties have 30 days from the date of initiation to submit comments and provide counter-information to US investigative agencies. It is expected that the DOC will make a final conclusion within 120 days from the date of initiation (can be extended for another 180 days if there is a good reason). During an investigation, the DOC may request information from interested parties for review purposes. Thus, out of 02 items representing some US wood cabinet manufacturers that asked DOC to investigate, DOC accepted to initiate an investigation 01 content (the issue of considering product scope). The remaining content (tax evasion investigation), DOC is still continuing to consider initiating the investigation (expected to last until June 6, 2022).
In order to ensure its legitimate interests, the Department of Trade Protection recommends that the Association and enterprises producing/exporting wooden cabinets continue to review activities of exporting investigated products to the United States; research, learn the regulations, order and procedures of investigation against tax evasion of the United States; properly and fully comply with the requirements of the US investigative agency, closely coordinate with the Department of Microfinance throughout the course of the case.
