Taiwan will restrict the import of asbestos-containing products from May 1, 2023 (10/13/2022)
On October 4, 2022, the Taiwan Environmental Administration Agency (EPA) web portal published the full text of a notice on the import restriction of asbestos-containing products.

According to the EPA, asbestos is a Class I human carcinogen classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), and it has become an international trend to limit its use to a ban. Since 1978, the EPA has classified asbestos as a Class II hazardous chemical, and over the years has revised its regulations to gradually limit the use of non-asbestos products towards achieving its target. maintain environmental safety.

Accordingly, on the basis of Article 21 of the Law on Waste and Garbage Treatment, from May 1, 2023, Taiwan prohibits the import of asbestos-containing products into Taiwan.

The import of asbestos-containing products is only allowed when the importer has written request and is granted import permission by the Regulatory Authority of Taiwan in the following cases:

- Imported for civilian and military protection use.

- Imported for the purpose of experiment, research and training.

- Inability to obtain suitable substitutes for non-asbestos products.

The Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei informs businesses that are exporting asbestos-containing products to Taiwan.
