Titanium dioxide (E171) is a substance formerly approved for use as a color additive in some food products. It is commonly used in the production of dietary supplements. However, in 2021, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has carried out a risk reassessment. The EFSA report mentions that, based on all available evidence, concerns regarding possible genotoxicity, considering a variety of unclear factors, the authority concluded that the food additive Titanium dioxide (E171) cannot be considered harmless. Therefore, from August 7, 2022, food manufacturers are not allowed to use this food color. Food containing titanium dioxide (E171) produced under the regulation before February 7, 2022, the date the new regulation takes effect, will be allowed to continue to be consumed in the market. However, from 7/8/2022 onwards, no food products containing E171 will be allowed to be sold on the EU market. Also related to food regulation, in 2022, the Danish Food and Veterinary Service will carry out a control campaign, which will check the content of environmental pollutants, contaminants. contamination, mycotoxins and natural toxins in the food, and will also check the quality of the olive oil.
The aim of the campaign to control compliance with EU limit values for chemical pollutants (focusing on Danish-made products, but imported food is also checked); check the quality of olive oil; Collect data for any future limit values and new foods. Vietnamese enterprises that are exporting food to Denmark should pay attention to ensure compliance with the limit values of chemical substances prescribed by the EU to avoid being inspected by the Danish competent authority.
