In the context of Vietnam's textile, garment and footwear exports to the world slowing down, Canada is one of the few major import markets of Vietnam that still maintains good growth. According to local data, including transshipment through the United States, Vietnam's textile and garment exports to Canada by the end of May 2024 reached 586 million USD, a slight increase of 2% over the same period in 2023. Total Canada's imports during the period for this group of products were over 4 billion USD; That is, Vietnam alone accounts for over 14% of the market share. Currently, Vietnam is the second most important exporting country to Canada for HS code 64, after China but is the country with the highest growth rate (47.4%); while Canada sharply reduced imports from China. In the context of Canada reducing consumption and therefore reducing textile and garment imports (imports are about 6.5% lower for both HS codes 61 and 62), Vietnam is one of the few markets that still maintains positive growth in locality. Canada is a large textile consumption market with an annual import value of over 10 billion USD; By 2023, Vietnam will account for over 20% of the market share, with a yearly export turnover of over 2 billion USD. For footwear and other products from leather (HS 64 and HS 42), in 2023, Vietnam will export 1.3 billion USD. However, in the first 5 months of the year, both of these items recorded a decrease, 4.7 and 5.2% respectively. Estimated turnover currently reaches about 406 million USD.

To support Vietnamese textile, garment and footwear businesses, the Vietnam Trade Office in Canada worked with the Organizing Committee of Apparel Textile Sourcing Toronto (Toronto Textile Sourcing Fair) to have preferential prices for businesses. Apparel Textile Sourcing Canada (ATSC) is Canada's largest international apparel sourcing event, focusing on the Apparel, Textile and Fashion sectors for the Canadian and North American markets.
