Coffee is the most popular drink among Algerians. On average, a person consumes more than 3 kg of coffee per year. Every year, Algeria imports about 130,000 tons of coffee beans with a value of 300 million USD. Coffee is imported in raw form (beans) and roasted and processed in factories according to Algerian tastes. Robusta coffee category accounts for the majority of the total coffee import turnover of Algeria (over 85%). The total tax and fee for importing coffee into Algeria (including VAT 19%) is 63%.

The main coffee exporting countries for Algeria are Vietnam, Ivory Coast, Indonesia, Brazil and Italy. For many years, coffee has always been Vietnam's top export item to Algeria. Vietnam's coffee market share is usually maintained at the highest level, accounting for over 50%. In the first 5 months of this year, our country's coffee exports to this market reached 36,104 tons (+106%), a turnover of 76.28 million USD (+114%). Raw coffee continues to be a key export item, accounting for 68% of Vietnam's total export value to this North African country.
