The Northeastern region of India consists of 8 states strategically located as a road bridge between the center of India and ASEAN countries, adjacent to Nepal, Bhutan, China, Bangladesh and Myanmar with a border of 5300 km; is the area that enjoys the most preferential policies of the Government of India, with the infrastructure system being gradually improved. This is an area that accounts for 7% of the area and 37% of the population of India with about 500 million people, with many customs, habits, habits and tastes similar to Southeast Asians. The Northeastern region is the center of Indian tea production, accounting for 50% of the tea produced in India and about one-sixth of the world's tea. Key economic sectors in the region include: Agriculture, textiles and handicrafts, healthcare, information technology, and tourism.

To facilitate the provision of information to the Vietnamese business community about opportunities for investment and business cooperation with the Northeast region of India, on June 2, 2023, the Vietnam Trade Office in India coordinated with The National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Authority (Invest India) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade of India and the Ministry of Northeastern Development of India (mDoner) organized an online conference themed "Explore opportunities for cooperation investment and business between the northeastern states of India and Vietnam”. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to India Nguyen Thanh Hai is expected to attend and speak at the Conference.
