Algeria does not plant forests, so it has to import wood and furniture to serve production and domestic consumption. Each year, the country buys about 700,000 tons of wood, of which 200,000 tons are used for furniture production. Timber is imported from 38 countries including Tunisia, Turkey, North Korea, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Lebanon, Finland, Brazil, Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Nigeria and Cameroon. Furniture imported from Europe is reduced import tax to 15%, VAT to 9% within the framework of the Algeria-EU Free Trade Agreement.

For furniture of countries that do not sign FTAs ​​with Algeria, when imported into Algeria, they are subject to 30% import tax (besides 19% VAT, 2% withholding tax and 2% community solidarity tax). For raw wood, the import tax is 5%, for preliminarily processed wood and plywood, the import tax is 15%.

Every year, Algeria also has a demand to buy 4000m2 of plywood (plywood) and raw MDF industrial woods. In 2020, Vietnam's export turnover of wood products, products from rattan, sedge, carpets to Algeria will reach 2.13 million USD (+51%).
