The event is an opportunity for businesses and investors to establish trade partnerships and promote import and export products in the fields of wood, furniture, technology and related equipment.
Algeria does not grow trees and timber, so it has to import wood and furniture to serve domestic production and consumption. Each year, the country buys about 700,000 tons of wood, of which 200,000 tons are used for furniture production. In addition, Algeria also has a need to buy 4,000m2 of plywood (plywood) and raw MDF industrial woods.
Timber is imported from 38 countries including Tunisia, Turkey, North Korea, China, Singapore, Indonesia, Lebanon, Finland, Brazil, Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Nigeria and Cameroon.
For furniture from countries that do not sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with Algeria, when imported into this country, they are subject to a 30% import tax (in addition to 19% VAT, 2% withholding tax and solidarity tax). community 2%). For raw wood, the import tax is 5%, for semi-processed wood and plywood, the import tax is 15%.
Wooden furniture imported from Europe is reduced import tax to 15%, VAT to 9% within the framework of the Algeria - EU Free Trade Agreement.
