On August 6, 2020, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc chaired an online conference on "Implementation of the Vietnam-European Union Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA)". The conference was attended by leaders of Party and National Assembly agencies, ministries, branches, localities, ambassadors and heads of delegations representing EU countries, as well as typical associations and businesses of both. Attempts to make full use of the Agreement
In order to ensure the full and effective implementation of the Agreement, the Prime Minister issued the Government's Implementation Plan of the Agreement with 5 major groups of contents, including: (i) propaganda, disseminating information about EVFTA Agreement and market of EU countries; (ii) legislative and institutional work; (iii) measures to improve competitiveness and develop human resources; (iv) guidelines and policies for trade unions and workers' organizations at the enterprise premises; and (v) social security policies, environmental protection and sustainable development. Each of these work groups is built with detailed contents and actions assigned to each ministry and sector with specific implementation time.
At the conference, leaders of ministries, branches and localities also presented their preparation of ministries, branches and localities for the implementation of EVFTA Agreement. It can be said that EVFTA is one of the new generation free trade agreements that Vietnam has joined, with many deep and wide commitments, including both traditional and non-traditional content. According to the evaluation of economic experts, EVFTA is expected to bring many favorable opportunities for our country's economy and society.
The new task now for both Parties is to put the Agreement into effective implementation, contributing to the socio-economic development of both Vietnam and the EU. We have had a lot of experience in putting bilateral and regional free trade agreements into operation recently, so there are some advantages in the process of putting EVFTA into implementation in the near future.
However, due to the raging outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and the uncertainty of when it will end, both Parties will inevitably face certain difficulties in the implementation of this Important Agreement, the implementation of which will be The Agreement in the coming time requires the efforts of both Vietnam and EU in the process of both fighting against epidemics and socio-economic development of both Parties.
Fulfill fully, seriously and responsibly the commitments of EVFTA
At the end of the Conference, the Prime Minister instructed ministries, sectors and localities to take the initiative and take more active actions in implementing the EVFTA Implementation Plan; strengthening coordination mechanism, ensuring consistency in the process of application and implementation of commitments under the Agreement; attaching importance to the training of human resources on State management in international economic integration; promote propaganda; and timely issuing legal documents, internalizing commitments, guiding the implementation of EVFTA Agreement.
