EU issues new threshold for mercury residues in seafood and salt (04/15/2022)
On 12 April 2022, the European Commission issued regulation number 2022/617, replacing regulation 1881/2006 on maximum residues of mercury in fish and salt products.

Accordingly, mercury residues in seafood range from 0.3 to 1μg/kg, depending on the type of product. The maximum residue of mercury in salt is 0.1μg/kg.

For products already on the market, the product will be consumed until the expiry date of the product.

This regulation takes effect from May 3, 2022.

Seafood and salt exporters should pay attention to the new regulations.
